ALBERTA “BERTIE” HOWE RECEIVES “KEY TO THE CITY”

September 8, 2009 - 100 Years Old and Still Having Fun! Worcester Mayor Konstantina Lukes presented Alberta “Bertie” Howe with the “Key to the City” in honor of Bertie’s 100th Birthday on September 5. Bertie has lived independently at Briarwood for more than 15 years.

A talented artist, Bertie painted well into her 90’s, including a self-portrait of her in a bright pink, broad brimmed hat, painted and exhibited here at Briarwood. She has contributed much to our community by her presence and participation, including service as a volunteer in support of a resident-run exercise program three days a week in which she was active for many years.

Bertie is a wonderful woman—wise, cheerful and beloved by family and all who know her. “I just want to say that living at Briarwood has been so much fun,” beamed Howe. Residents and staff agree. It’s fun to have Bertie a part of this vital community.
