Worcester Plein Air Painters was formerly launched as a group in an exhibit at the Bijou Theater in Worcester Center in June of 2003. Its members had spent many years painting together before that date. Some of the group had been part of the Worcester State Life Drawing sessions and some were and are part of the Princeton Portrait Group. Many were and are connected through Regional Art Organizations in Gloucester, Rockport, Springfield and Cape Cod.
All in the exhibit at Briarwood Gallery share a love of painting outdoors En Plein Air, live within the boundaries of Worcester County and are exhibiting scenes painted of Worcester County.
The group is loosely structured and is tied together by the desire to “capture the light on a particular day in a specific location at certain hours during the day. Some of the artists “finish their paintings in a studio from memory or imagination and some leave their “record of the day” as is for others to judge.
Exhibiting artists are: Robert Aiello, Worcester; Emilie Astell, Holden; Sharon Bahosh, Lancaster; Eleanor Beatty, Worcester; Bruce Dean, Princeton; Sam Lalos, Worcester; Jean Murphy, Southbridge; Joanne Quinn, Princeton; Linda Sinacola, Sutton, and Sid Solomon, Worcester. In addition to the 10 painters listed, the exhibit will showcase two paintings by Bob Duffy of Worcester as a tribute to him. He died last year and painted with WPAP for many years.
The Gallery at Briarwood Committee members are Bill Fyffe, Frank Kimball, Mimi Grenier, Persis Hamilton, Betty Petter, Marilyn Pratt, Barbara Roscoe, David Sawin, Anita Thomas (Staff) and Dot Yagjian.
Upcoming 2016 exhibits for The Gallery at Briarwood will include: outdoor painters; July: Sid Solomon, watercolor painter; September: Barbara Brosnihan, painter and teacher; and November: WWI Poster exhibit presented by Briarwood resident, Gordon, Lankton.
