Briarwood Retirement Community Presents Art Exhibit:
"Visions of Joy & Creativity"
Opening: Saturday, September 29, 1-4pm

Worcester, MA (September 18, 2012) Briarwood Residents and Staff are pleased to present the first "Visions of Joy and Creativity" Art Show to be held Saturday, September 29, 1-4pm in the Birches Auditorium, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will showcase various medium including oil, water color, woodwork, stained glass and enamel on copper. All artwork is recent, having been completed within the past two years. Music will be provided by The Joy of Music Program.

The collection of artists is as varied as the artwork itself. Committee members include Briarwood residents Mimi Grenier, Persis Hamilton and Marilyn S. Pratt. Briarwood staff committee members are Alice Eriksen, of Boylston, Jane Johnston, of Holden and Anita Thomas of Boylston.

Marilyn Pratt, is an accomplished artist and former resident of Princeton. Marilyn is co-chair of the exhibit. An active member of the Princeton Arts Society, she teaches art to residents at Briarwood. "The art we make is important, but the process is important as well ", says Pratt." It gives us a sense of joy, creativity and feelings of self worth. It makes us happier people!"

Jane Johnston, Director of Activities for Briarwood Assisted Living, is co-chairing the event with Marilyn Pratt. She also teaches art classes at Briarwood. "Some of us here at Briarwood have been using the right side of our brain, doing art activities on our own and in classes", says Johnston.

Mimi Grenier, also a well-known and talented artist will be exhibiting her enamel on copper art. Mimi is an active member of the Worcester Center for Crafts.

Susan Colby is fitness instructor at Briarwood and the Greendale Branch of the YMCA. Colby is also a skilled artist who specializes in Maine lighthouses and nautical scenes. "To me fitness means more than physical exercise. It is mental, spiritual, cultural and creative fitness. Retirement is the ideal time to develop all these areas."

Briarwood is a non-profit community offering Independent Living cottages & apartments, Assisted Living Services, & Knollwood Nursing Center.
