As we age, staying independent may mean having more assistance. For seniors living in the Briarwood community, we offer a Home Companion Program. Our trusted Home Companions support your independence with compassion, connection, and care. We offer services to enhance your quality of life by providing companionship for spouses living with dementia, assistance with tasks, errands, projects, and more. Our experienced Companions are guided by the Briarwood mission “to enhance the well-being, independence, and personal fulfillment of its residents.”
Why Briarwood Home Companion Program?
Briarwood’s Home Companion program employs trusted team members vetted through the same procedures as all Briarwood employees. Each companion is fully insured, professionally trained, and aligned with the mission and values of the Briarwood community.
The program offers multi-level home companion support options for residents in our community, helping you maintain independence and quality of life with a program designed for you. Residents have access to emotional, social, spiritual, and physical support with our companions.
Support services include:
- Companionship. Appointment, medication, and event reminders; help with correspondence; escorting to family gatherings; social interaction; transportation and support for medical appointments; safety and security checks; and more.
- Homemaking. Grocery shopping, meal preparation, prescription pickup, laundry, dog walking, pet care assistance, light housekeeping, and other routine tasks that support comfortable daily living.
- Personal care needs. Support with dressing, shower guidance, medication reminders, and other necessary assistance.

I have utilized the services of the [Companion] Program for periods ranging from 2 hours to 12 days, and have always found the companions to be compassionate, caring, and dedicated to their role of caring for someone else’s loved one. With the aid of a “Guidelines for Caring for [my spouse],” (which I wrote), the care given to her during my 12-day absence was the same as when I provided the care. And upon my return, I merely stepped into my role with no problem at all.
