Artist Barbara Brosnihan to Exhibit                                                             “Reflections of Nature” at Briarwood

Brosnihan taught art in the Worcester public Schools for 31 years

Worcester, Massachusetts   The Gallery at Briarwood is pleased to announce the fifth public art exhibit in a series of six for 2016. ”Reflections of Nature” by Barbara Brosnihan runs Sunday, Sept. 11 through Friday, Nov. 4, and is open Mondays through Fridays from 10am-4pm. The exhibit will showcase acrylic and oil paintings featuring both landscape and still life.

 

Barbara taught art for 31 years in the Worcester Public Schools, mainly at South High Community School. She taught private painting lessons in her studio and specialized in children’s portraits before her teaching career. She has exhibited with the Deerfield Valley Art Association, Eastern State Exhibition, The Holden Art Association, the Capen Hill Nature Sanctuary, the Arts Center in Southborough, and the Westboro Art Gallery.

 

“My paintings are from imagination and observation,” says Brosnihan. “My aim is to capture the beauty and mystical quality of the natural environment.”

Brosnihan received a B.F.A. in Painting and Illustration at the Massachusetts College of Art, where she received a full scholarship for her senior year in 1955. In 1969 she graduated from Assumption College with a M.A.T. in Art Education and in l978 received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from the University of Massachusetts.

The Gallery at Briarwood is located at 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester. Groups and those wishing to visit on weekends may make arrangements by contacting Anita Thomas at 508-852-9007 or by e-mailing amthomas@briarwoodsl.com.

The Gallery at Briarwood showcases the artistic talents of Briarwood Residents, as well as artists from the surrounding area. It is the mission of the gallery to educate, encourage and inspire residents and visitors by presenting a schedule of media using both traditional and innovative techniques.

 

The final 2016 exhibit for The Gallery at Briarwood is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6 and will showcase a rare WWI Poster exhibit presented by Briarwood resident, Gordon, Lankton.

The Gallery at Briarwood Committee members include Bill Fyffe, Frank Kimball, Mimi Grenier, Persis Hamilton, Betty Petter, Marilyn Pratt, David Sawin, Chloe Sundberg, Anita Thomas (Staff) and Dot Yagjian.

 

Briarwood is a non-profit senior living community that includes Independent Living cottages & apartments, Assistance in Living services, and Knollwood Nursing Center for skilled nursing & rehabilitation services.
