Worcester, MA the Briarwood Community is pleased to announce the sixth and final public art exhibit for the 2017 series. Photographer Susan Sedgwick’s exhibit “Bits and Pieces: From the Camera of Susan Sedgwick” will be on display Sunday, Nov. 5 through Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Gallery at Briarwood, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester.

Sedgwick’s photography exhibit will focus on landscapes.  “I have been fortunate to be able to travel to many places in the world.  The prints in this show are taken abroad and close to home. I titled the show Bits and Pieces because of the variety of locations and techniques included.” Her prints have been selected from hundreds of black and white film and color digital photographic images.

Ms. Sedgwick began her photography in 1983 with a film camera and developed her photos in darkrooms at home and at The Worcester Center for Crafts. The Historical Society published some of those prints in the book Sharrai Torah: Life Cycle of a Synagogue Curated by Norma Feingold.

In 2006, Susan Sedgwick started using a digital camera to take color photographs. The processing and printing of color prints, converting some to black and white, were done at home. The addition of color to her photographic art was prompted in 2008 when a 4×4 Poet/Artist group was formed.  “Working with the poets enhanced my eye for taking more color and abstract prints”, said Sedgwick. This year the group published Echo & Spark. Works from the 4×4 Poet and Artist Collaborative.

An opening reception will be held 2:00 pm -4:00 pm Sunday, Nov. 5 in the gallery. The event is free and open to the public and will include refreshments and music provided by classical guitarist Peter Clemente.

The first exhibit in the 2018 series at the Gallery at Briarwood will feature the art of Briarwood and Knollwood Nursing Center residents and staff. This exhibit will run from Jan. 11 through March 1. The other five exhibits will be announced at a later date.

The Gallery at Briarwood is located at 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, and is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Groups and those wishing to visit on weekends may make arrangements by contacting Anita Thomas at 508-852-9007 or by e-mailing amthomas@briarwoodsl.com.
