“Princeton Arts 35th Anniversary Exhibition” in the Gallery at Briarwood

gallery exhibition

Author: Janice Kerber

The current exhibition in the Gallery at Briarwood gets the 2026 season off to a great start! More than 40 members of Princeton Arts, formerly known as the Princeton Arts Society, provide an extensive collection of over 80 artworks showcasing a variety of
media, artistic styles, and subjects. Visitors to the show’s reception on January 11th stood shoulder to shoulder to admire this wide range of artistic expression. Art Gallery Committee member Sarah Davis hosted an introduction to the exhibition. Joanna Lancaster, President of Princeton Arts, thanked everyone responsible for the exhibition, artist Barry Van Dusen read a brief history of Princeton Arts, and Sarah introduced all the artists who contributed to the exhibition. Visitors enjoyed the music of Jazzed Up and feasted on a beautiful anniversary cake.

The artwork on display includes woven baskets, plaster relief sculptures, felted wall hangings, graphite pencil drawings,  paintings in watercolor and oils, and more. The variety of artistic styles include portraiture, realism, abstract, photography on metal, collage, and monotype printing over etching. Lovely  landscapes and scenic seascapes enchant and trigger fond memories in the viewer. Visitors delight in fun flamingos, cats
with an attitude, and “the man in the moon.”

Some of the artists even appear in several pieces depicting Princeton Arts’ members gathered at work and in conversation. Among them are current Briarwood residents. In fact, our own Merry Pratt Walters was a co-founder of Princeton Arts in 1991, and her image can be seen in one of the works.

The Gallery at Briarwood is proud to host this exciting exhibition as the kick-off celebration of Princeton Arts special 35th anniversary year. Congratulations Princeton Arts for 35 years of serving the community through your goal of “encouraging and
supporting a wide range of artists through exhibits, workshops, performances, and lectures.”
