There are so many magnificent places to see in America and abroad. Often our personal preferences dictate our travel plans. For example, certain people regularly crave the friendly Florida sun, while others like to explore different regions. The list below examines a few vacation ideas some seniors might find interesting.
Washington DC. If you haven’t already been, Washington is a fascinating place to visit! The city is immersed in history, and the Metro system (buses and rail cars) is wheelchair-friendly and stops at most popular sites. Of course nearly everyone will want to see the White House, Capitol, National Mall, and Arlington National Cemetery, but don’t forget the Smithsonian Museums! These “rich in information” buildings are comprised of seventeen different structures (two additional ones are in NY). The American History Museum, Natural History Museum, National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of African Art, are all a part of the Smithsonian. A more than appealing perk? The museums, including the National Zoo, are free to the public!
Branson, Missouri. Renowned for its entertainment and beautiful scenery, this senior-friendly city is a wonderful place to stay. The Ozark Mountains and three lakes encircle this happening place. Dinner shows, comedy clubs, The Osmonds Theatre, Andy Williams Moon River Theatre, The Welk Resort Theatre, are all available to visit. Springfield-Branson Airport is about an hour away, while Branson Airport, slated to open in May 2009, is approximately 20 minutes from the main attractions. Getting to this Midwestern delight has never been easier!
Cruise Ships. Cruises often include most expenses, so they can be a great way to vacation (some lines even offer senior discounts). In addition to sleeping quarters, pools, spas, casinos, glamorous shopping, nonstop food, exercise classes, Broadway-like shows, and nightclubs, are all there for the taking. Some popular cruise destinations? Alaska, Europe, South America, Hawaii, and so much more! A doctor is typically aboard, as is a 24-hour infirmary.
Another thought about travel? To tour or not to tour. Tour groups are extremely convenient because the itinerary and transportation are scheduled in advance. Still, if you prefer independent decision-making, you may wish to go it alone.
The bottom line? When you make your travel arrangements, be happy with your choice, don’t worry about anything, and enjoy!
